This is a stunning fast growing giant of a plant with lush tropical looking foliage and foot long spikes of intense violet blue flowers.
If you live in the southern half of Britain and add a layer of mulch in the autumn the plant will emerge - late, so don't panic ! - and then launch itself into rapid growth again. It does need protection from hungry molluscs and will tolerate partial shade
In colder areas it would be safer to grow in a large container, and the cut back and move to a frost free place.
But what amazing flowers, and so late in the season !
